ABOUT THE BOOKS |
All of my books have been written in response to a question asked of me in the course of my professional work. The questions behind each book and answers to other questions about my books are presented on the pages in this website. |
Natalie Rathvon is a clinical psychologist and educational consultant in private practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia. She received a Ph.D. in education from George Mason University and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from George Washington University, where she is an assistant clinical professor of psychology. A former teacher, guidance director, special education coordinator, and counselor educator, she has worked in public, charter, and private school settings for more than 25 years. She provides consultation and professional development to schools and agencies in the areas of assessment and accountability, reading, problem-solving teams, and evidence-based interventions. She has been a trainer for Reading First, trainer and peer reviewer for Early Reading First, and member of the U.S. Department of Education technical workgroup reviewing Even Start state accountability systems. She is a member of the board of directors of SchoolTalk, Inc., a nonprofit corporation in the District of Columbia that develops models and provides training for dispute resolution and home-school collaboration in special education service delivery. She is the author of The Unmotivated Child: Helping Your Underachiever Become a Successful Student (Simon & Schuster, 1996), Effective School Interventions: Strategies for Enhancing Academic Achievement and Social Competence (Guilford Press, 1999), Early Reading Assessment: A Practitioner’s Handbook (Guilford Press, 2004), and Effective School Interventions, Second Edition: Evidence-Based Strategies for Improving Student Outcomes(Guilford Press, 2008).
